The Archdiocese of Atlanta has set the 10th grade as the year for the Sacrament of Confirmation to be celebrated. In order to be confirmed, you must show proof of two years of religious education, whether it is through a parish-sponsored religious education program (PSR) or Catholic school attendance.
Candidates must also participate in formational preparation, which is only offered through the parish. This consists of sessions beginning in August and ends with a ceremony in May. Candidates are also required to attend our Confirmation Retreat and participate in parish youth activities.
Class Schedule:
There are two sessions per week per topic: Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Wednesdays are the primary day of instruction. Tuesdays should be used as a backup day in case of illness or scheduling conflicts.
Your teen must attend a Confirmation session on each topic. If your teen does not attend a session on a specific topic (either on Tues. or Wed.), both the teen and parent will need to meet with Christine Martin-Santos for the makeup session.
Confirmation requirements:
- The candidate must be a registered parishioner of Mary Our Queen Catholic Church
- Confirmation candidates must be in 10th, 11th or 12th grade and must have attended Religious Education/Catholic School for the two years prior to receiving preparation for the Sacrament
- The duration of the Confirmation preparation program is two years. Regular attendance is essential. The candidate cannot miss more than 4 youth nights per year (if not in Catholic school)
- Candidate must have attended one Catholic retreat in the year prior to receiving Confirmation and the year in which the Sacrament of Confirmation is received
- Candidate must complete 30 hours of Community Service over two-year period
- In the year leading to the Sacrament of Confirmation (Confirmation II), all teens including those in Catholic schools, are required to attend Formation Sessions, held on selected Tuesday or Wednesday nights.
