Parish History

Opened as a mission of All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, Georgia, in November 1994, Mary Our Queen started life humbly in an office building on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in nearby Norcross. Our first mass coincided with the beginning of the liturgical year.

Initially, there were 70 registered families. Mass was celebrated on Saturdays at the 5 p.m. vigil and at 10 a.m. on Sundays. In short order, our parish grew exponentially and we added another mass on Sunday at 11 a.m. An adult choir, contemporary choir and children’s choir started. Other ministries followed with lectors, altar servers, Eucharistic ministers, ushers and a nursery.

By the end of the first year a men’s club and women’s guild was established, and we opened classes for our school of religion program; other support organizations and church ministries started to organize as well.

Through the efforts of the finance and land acquisition committees, we purchased a 15-acre site at the intersection of The Corners Parkway and Crooked Creek Road in the Peachtree Corners area of Norcross, which would be the permanent location of Mary Our Queen.

Mary Our Queen Moves to New Church in 1998

On October 20, 1997, the Archdiocese of Atlanta approved our application to construct a 15,000-square-foot temporary church, which would also include administrative offices, a parish hall with kitchen facility, several classrooms, music room and a nursery. We also purchased a 6,000-square-foot building adjacent to the proposed church. that building was completely refurbished and renamed the Trinity Building.

Our more permanent home (but not the final resting place) opened in May 1998. Our sanctuary can seat 600, and the Trinity Building is totally dedicated to our school of religion program. We currently have 750 registered families.

Future Plans

A Master Plan and Design Development programs are underway for the requirements of our future needs in terms of a permanent church, administrative offices, and education facility.
